Gulfstream G-650

Imagen
The Gulfstream G-650 is one of the best private jets in the market. Some would compare it to a Bentley or Rolls Royce, in other words, a top end product with the most refined technical specifications that provide reliability and security in the sky. It is Gulfstream's largest and fastest airplane, reaching a speed of Mach .95. The first G-650 was delivered in December 2012 and surely part of its success will be related to its ultra long range (more than 7,000 miles) which means that it can fly nonstop from Buenos Aires to New York City. But not everything has been good news with this new airplane. In 2011 a G-650 doing a test flight crashed during take off (simulating an engine failure as part of its certification programme) killing all four crew on board. That sad episode has been left behind and the aircraft has become incredibly successful as it can carry up to 18 people making it an ideal product for governments, corporations and other business entities. Here yo...

History Channel documentary

Welcome again to our blog . This year we´ll publish more articles about flight simulation, commercial aviation and other related topics we know you like. We will also upload interesting information, videos and other media produced by third parties to complement our posts. Today we start by uploading a History Channel documentary called "The World´s Most Extreme Airports¨. The documentary lists ten airports around the world which are dangerous for a number of reasons, but most, if not all, share difficult approaches with mountainous terrain, unpredictable weather and short runways. The TV show also describes the accidents that have occurred in these airports, as a reminder of how dangerous they are, and at the same time this shows the improvements that have been made as a result of those incidents, some of them resulting in changes that have certainly avoided more disasters. On our next posting we´ll share with you some screenshots of some of these airports on Microsoft´s...

Bombardier C Series

Bombardier CSeries, a new competitor in the mid range market. Do Airbus and Boeing need to worry? The narrow body mid range market is a very lucrative segment dominated by the Boeing 737, Airbus a318-21 series and Embraer's 170-195. Airlines rarely choose a new manufacturer when renovating their aircraft, for example, if an airline has always used Boeing, it would be costly to switch (or integrate to their existing fleet) an Airbus, because training, maintenance and other costs will have built economies of scale within the airline and a change will take time, resources, etc. Having said that, a number of airlines traditionally working with a single manufacturer(or at least a preferred one) have been forced to integrate other manufacturer's airplanes to their fleet when merging with another airline. So the question is, are there many airlines interested in integrating a new narrow body 110-135 seater to their existing fleets? The answer might be the new Bombardier C Series...

b787 vs a350

Imagen
The Dream is back... but its competitor just took off! The Boeing 787 Dreamliner didn't have an easy start. Years ago, the FAA grounded the DC-10 after an accident in which more than 200 people died. Now, things are different, and the 787 remained grounded for more than three months after several incidents with the lithium-powered batteries that didn't cost any lives. During the grounding, the media focused its attention in discussing the safety of the aircraft, and some airlines and many passengers started to raise doubts about the newand composite material-made aircraft. Luckily, the grounding is over and the 787 is back in the skies, with no major issues after it's reappearance. But the comeback won't be the smoothest thing in the world, as its competitor, the Airbus a350 just took off on its first flight and is expected to enter service in late 2014. The 787 is slightly smaller, with a max load of 242 passengers, while the a350 will be able to carry 270. Never...

PRESIDENTIAL AIRCRAFT: THE AIR FORCE ONE

Imagen
Presidential aircraft are a symbol of power for many countries, and governments spend millions of dollars every year maintaining their "official fleet". Although owning a presidential aircraft might seem the safest and most convenient way to move a head of state around the world, not every government chooses that option. A good example is the UK, which doesn't own a presidential, or in their case an official aircraft for their Prime Minister. Instead, that country chooses to lease a commercial aircraft to take the PM around the world, so sometimes you'll see him on a Virgin Atlantic (normally an a340), and others in a British Airways aircraft. The president of the United States though, is a different story, and the most famous "presidential aircraft" is the Air Force One, which is a highly modified 747 called the VC-25, which has many secret features and others which are a bit obvious, including its ability to refuel in-flight, anti missile equipment, et...
